Tips for keeping area rugs spotless

Got kids in the house? Or pets? Or maybe you enjoy entertaining. Your area rug may be prone to spills. Perhaps general dust accumulation is affecting how your stunning wall-hanging rug looks

Cleaning frequently-used area rug areas?

Based on where you put the rug, certain rug areas have high use and they will accumulate the most dirt and spills and staining than the average.

Regular vacuuming of such rugs will eliminate visible and dust particles that are hidden. To extend the lifespan of your reversible rug, you should rotate it every year, if not more. Don’t neglect to clean each side. If your rug has fringe or tassels that require extra care, caution should be taken to avoid excessive vacuuming of these areas.

If you are pet-friendly, you should brush out your pet’s hair. If the rug isn’t big enough to be easily picked up by hand, shaking or beating it outside is a great method of removing dust.

Deep cleansing of area rugs is recommended at least once a year to avoid buildup that can harm the rug’s foundation. Always test your patch before applying any commercial cleaner. If you’re not sure about the process contact a professional

Cleaning wall-hanging rugs

Anything that can be put on the floor could be put onto the wall. Rugs placed on the walare much less likely to attract as much dust as rugs placed on the floor.

Cleaning and maintenance guidelines for wall-hanging rugs are based on the threads the rug is made from. Most wall-hanging rugs are made of delicate silk-like threads and require special attention. If you want to clean them, put them on an upholstered nylon screen, and weigh them down using bricks or books. You could even put an elastic mesh over the vacuum before cleaning. Rugs made of hand-knotted or kilim can benefit from safe vacuuming.

It is advisable to get a professional clean for delicate wall-hanging rugs to avoid damaging them.

Caring for your patchwork rugs

Patchwork rugs can be constructed using different threads. Use the maintenance guide for the most delicate thread in your rug to guide your cleaning

Never wash patchwork rugs. Since they are made from different threads and have multiple patches, the colours from one patch might transfer to the next. Vacuuming or dry cleaning is recommended.

Flatweave rugs require much more care than you might think.

Be cautious when vacuuming flatweave rugs; especially being aware of the fringe to prevent fraying. If you’re using water, make sure you use cold water. Based on the fiber and the size, you may machine wash the flatweave rug. However, this is not something we would recommend. It could damage your machine, and also alter the colour and fibre of your rug over time.

Placing a pad under your flatweave rugs is a good way of keeping your flatweave rug clean and allowing for easy maintenance.

Your designer rug has unique needs.

Your designer rug would have come with instructions specific to it. Follow these cleaning instructions to maintain the integrity of your designer rug. Typically, the care and maintenance for designer rugs is not very different from other rugs. A gentle vacuum and an oscillating brush or regular brushing is recommended to keep dust off.

Care for the natural fibres of a floor rug

Floor rugs and other natural fibre rugs, such as, rush, and coir, are made of an open weave style that lets dust flow into the floor beneath. Cleanse frequently, taking the rug off the floor from time to time. Many sisal rugs are easily reversible. Flip them regularly to even wear and vacuum them every time you flip.

To spot clean rugs and more, wash them thoroughly using soapy water. It is important to wipe and dry completely because excess water weakens natural fibres. Use a hairdryer, or fan when needed. To protect the floor below the rug, cover it by covering it with an aluminum sheet or towel.
